Delusional fools?

Anyone else noticed that the start of this year's Holy Week coincides with April Fools' Day? Hmm... heh.

Are religious people fools? Many polite atheists avoid the question because they don't want to offend anyone. But in the past few months, "delusional" has become an increasingly popular word for describing believers, thanks to Richard Dawkins' bestselling book, The God Delusion.

Dawkins, who is perhaps the world's most outspoken atheist, didn't bother to sugarcoat anything--no "I respect your beliefs" crap. For him, if you believe in God, you're delusional. Ouch.

Is that too harsh? I don't think so. I think it's only fair that we freethinkers get to express our views more strongly. After all, Christians evangelize all the time. They keep telling us that we're fools if we don't believe in Jesus. It's somewhat satisfying to turn the tables on them and say, "No, you're the fools." The guy who made this YouTube video called "How do we know that Christians are delusional?" is doing just that.

Heh, that was amusing, wasn't it? If you're a Christian, it probably wasn't. And as much as I enjoyed it, rants like this are preaching to the choir (if atheists have choirs, that is). Seriously, if you believe that many Christians will realize their foolishness after watching this video or reading The God Delusion, you're delusional.

Let's face it, many people are not bright enough to understand logic and reason, and even those who are bright enough often refuse to understand. There's simply very little hope for them, and the best that the rest of us can do is to mock them mercilessly.

And that's what I'm planning to do here for the next few days. After all, it's Holy Week, and I don't want to miss out on the religious fun.
